Centering Prayer

Cissy Eyre and I co-facilitate Centering Prayer at 8:00 AM CST every Friday. It is open to everyone. The Meditation Chapel prayer space opens a little before 8:00 am CT and can be accessed here.

If you have not registered before, here is the link to do so via Meditation Chapel.

Here’s a brief overview to begin a sit, using Fr. Keating and Contemplative Outreach guidelines:

And so we begin.

Be aware of your breath. As we breath in and out, we let go of the outwardly and inwardly distractions.

As thoughts arise, we acknowledge them, without judgement, letting them dissolve.

We let our solid thoughts and emotions become like clouds that dissipate.

Today I invite you to our shared sacred space, part of the Great Mystery.

Close your eyes. Feel your feet on the ground, Deepen your breath. Allow any tension to drop away, trusting that the Holy will hold you the next 25 minutes.

Remember our intent is to let our mind rest in our heart. Now, we drop into that place where deep life awaits.

When you notice that you are engaged in a thought - gently return to your sacred word or breath. Let thoughts go as they arise.

A bell will begin and end our 25 minutes of prayer after this short invocation:

Be silent,
Still,
Aware.
For there
In your own heart,
The Spirit is at prayer,
Listen and learn,
Open and find,

Heart wisdom,

Life.
